Hey everyone!! Recently I went Dubbo to attend Student Leadership Conference by Charles Sturt University. In which around 60 domestic and international students were selected from different campuses of CSU as Student Delegates to attend the 3 day long Student Leadership Conference 2017 of CSU held in the Dubbo campus and out of many applications, two international students were selected from every campus of CSU Sydney, Wagga Wagga, Port Macquarie, Melboune, Bathurst and Brisbane. When I was selected for this conference I had so many queries hopping in my head. First thing that popped in mind was “are you kidding me?”, “is this a spam?”, “they gonna kidnap me?’’ LOL … all this came in mind because I had no idea what this event was how it was gonna happen moreover no one had covered this event. So I am writing this blog basically for my fellows who in future would be willing to go in such event organized by our CSU and will not have such queries like me. And also this is just my personal blog being a student whatever I could cover I have covered. I am just sharing my experience with you.
So on Monday Felix and I from Brisbane took flight for Dubbo via Sydney. As we reached Sydney we were looking for seats so that we can rest for a while in the lounge. Suddenly someone called me and Felix and I full amazed saw behind. And there she was; Clara and other students from Port Macquarie. Clara is the person who was responsible to take us all together, who took care of us each and every moment. From there we all together went Dubbo and also I saw the most tiny airplane. More than tiny it was cute :D. travelling from main city of Australia to regional city of New South Wale.We reached the Dubbo campus around 5pm where Kerry was there to welcome everyone. by the time all domestic and International student were gathered there. As we reached there we were divided into groups to play the Scavenger hunt and were given a bag of goodies with the help of which we had to do some task. It was 1.5 hour task which was basically to make students familiar with the Dubbo campus. It was so fun. After that we had a pizzaand got time to do interaction with evryone after a while we went to our hotel. End of the day 1.
Day 2 begins…with aim of learning new things, excitement, making new friends. We all went to the seminar hall many of thinking that this will be as usual formal kind of conference in which students usually fell asleep but NOPE. Firstly we were divided into groups on the basis of our birthday month and in each group we have to discuss one similarity and one thing that make us unique from all. I like this idea of interaction it was fun though. 60 students were now into Group 1 and 2
Theme of Conference was- The Value of Leadership. Along with this CSU also wanted to inculcate its value to us that were INSIGHTFUL, IMPACTFUL, INCLUSIVE, INSPIRING. Every workshop was different from other. But hey hold on!! as I told you this was not a boring conference. We had Nic who gave tips to overcome stress. Twin brothers Chris and Justin Nelson were there who gave us opportunity to face our life’s greatest fear, public speaking. We shared our most funniest as well as most embarrassing moment. Then it was time breakyy.
Around 3 we were finished with our day 2 workshops. So we (International students) went to see Dubbo though we wanted to explore more but we couldn’t due to shortage to time, because we had to go to campus because we were having Halloween party. But we were amazed by the beauty of this place. Moreover I found this place so peaceful unlike cities. We were back in the evening and there was food, snackes, drinks, games, friends what else one can think of when you have all of these.
Next morning we had breakfast and morning coffee to kick start our day. We had workshop with Mr.Stan Grant Junior who was our keynote speaker who is a presenter on National Indigenous Television (NITV), was appointed to a role of Chair of Indigenous Affairs at Charles Sturt University in June 2016 and the line goes on…… last day was to cover other two workshops and the badgets. around noon we were finished with our all workshops. Almost of us had flights at 4 in the evening till that we had time to chit chat so we did also in the mean while Felix taught us play Heads of seven.
Collected all four badgets and values of CSU.Had FUN!!
